Some Interesting Science Facts That Will Blow Your Mind

Science is a very fascinating topic. I've never got bored talking about it. I always thought why most of the people don't like science. Maybe it is due to the way science is taught by the schools.

When I was a kid. I don't like science that much. The way the teacher taught us science was so frustrating. But when I realize the wonderfulness and beauty of science, since then I was in love with science. In My opinion, the "Definition of science is to study the beauty of nature and reality, the way it is."

In this article, we are not only talking about interesting facts about science but also the science behind it.

Here Are Some Amazing Facts Of Science

20% Of Earth's Oxygen Is Produced By Amazon's Rain Forest

Amazon's rain forest produces approximately 20% of the earth's Oxygen that's why Amazon's rain forest is also called "Lungs of the Earth". Earth's atmosphere comprises 78.09% of Nitrogen, 20.95% oxygen, 0.93% argon, 0.04% carbon dioxide, and some small amounts of other gases.

From all the gases present in the air, Oxygen (O2) and Carbon Dioxide (CO2) gases are one of the main factors to maintain life on earth. Because of these two gases, Life on earth survives and maintains continuation.

Eiffel Tower Can Be 15 Centimetre Taller During The Summer

Yes, it is true Eiffel Tower can be taller during summer approximately 13 to 15 cm. It's because of thermal expansion. Thermal expansion is a property of a metal which is defined as "the general increase in the volume of a material as it increases its temperature."

As we know, the Eiffel Tower is made up of metal. So during summer when the sun is brightest during the day, because of thermal expansion Eiffel Tower's length increase from a few centimeters.

Newborn Babies Have 100 More Bones Than Adults

An adult human has 206 bones in his body, but a newborn baby has over 300 bones in his body. This is because babies have more flexible cartilage (a firm tissue softer than bone) in the body. Because of cartilage, children's bones are very flexible.

As the child grows, some of the cartilage hardens and turns to bone, and some bones fuse together And till the age of an adult, the bone number reduces to 206.

Polar Bears Are Nearly Undetectable By Infrared Cameras

Infrared cameras or thermal cameras detect the heat lost by a subject as infrared, but polar bears are experts in conserving heat. Polar bear's skin is so thick which is made up of fat and dense two-layer of fur. Because of the thick layer of fur in the skin, heat can't get out of the body. That's why polar bears are nearly undetectable by infrared cameras.

It Takes 8 Minute 19 Second For Light To Travel From The Sun To The Earth.

Light is made up of small packets of energy, which is called Photons. Photons emitted from the surface of the Sun need to travel across the vacuum of space to reach our eyes. The exact value of the speed of light is defined as 299792458 meters per second. It takes sunlight an average of 8 minutes and 19 seconds to travel from the Sun to the Earth.

The universe is a very vast place in which millions and trillions of stars and galaxies are present And eight minutes is still very little compared to four years it takes 4.244 light-years for sunlight reach to Proxima Centauri.

If You Took Out All The Empty Space Inside Atoms, All Human Race Could Fit In A Volume Of Sugar Cube.

This is because atoms are 99.9999999999999% empty space. If you could squeeze all the empty space out of all the atoms in all the 7 billion people in the world, you could indeed fit them in the volume of a sugar cube.

Stomach Acid Is Too Strong It Can dissolve stainless steel.

Many people don’t know that their own stomachs contain powerful acid. Stomach acid is also called gastric acid, which consists of potassium chloride, sodium chloride, and hydrochloric acid.

Acids are measured on a scale known as the pH scale. The pH scale goes from 0 to 14. 0 is the most acidic, 7 is neutral, and 14 is the least acidic. The pH of stomach acid usually ranges from 1 to 3. At its strongest, the pH of stomach acid just below that of battery acid! That’s why it’s not only able to digest the food fast but also able to dissolve stainless steel.

Earth Is A Giant Magnet

Earth is a giant magnet with north and south magnetic poles, and a magnetic field called the magnetosphere. Earth's magnetic field helps protect Earth's surface and its organisms from harmful solar particles by pulling most of the particles toward the magnetic poles.

Earth has an inner and outer core and that the outer core consists of liquid metals, mainly iron and nickel. Scientists think that Earth’s magnetic field is generated by the movement of charged particles through the molten metals in the outer core.

Venus Is the Only Planet In Our Solar System That Spin Clockwise.

All The planets in the Solar System orbit the Sun in an anticlockwise direction as viewed from above Earth's north pole. Most planets also rotate on their axes in an anti-clockwise direction, but Venus rotates clockwise in retrograde rotation once every 243 Earth days. So that on Venus the sun rises in the west.

There are many hypotheses to explain the reason Venus spins clockwise, but in reality, it still remains a mystery.

A Flea Can Accelerate Faster Than Space Shuttle

When they jump, fleas accelerate faster than a space shuttle. In fact, over 20 times faster. Because of their size and the force used to jump those great distances, their acceleration is approximately 100 times the force of gravity.

Hawaii Island Moves 7.5 Centimetre Closer To Alaska Every Year

Hawaii moves 7.5cm closer to Alaska every year. The Earth’s crust is split into gigantic pieces called tectonic plates. These plates are in constant motion, propelled by currents in the Earth’s upper mantle.

The hot, less-dense rock rises before cooling and sinking, giving rise to circular convection currents which act like giant conveyor belts, slowly shifting the tectonic plates above them. Hawaii sits in the middle of the Pacific Plate, which is slowly drifting north-west towards the North America plate, back to Alaska.

Chalk Is Made Up Of Trillions Of Microscopic Plankton Fossils.

Chalk is made of the calcareous remains of zillions of microscopic fossil plankton (either coccolithophores or foraminifera). It is essentially a very fine-grained, uncompressed bio-clastic limestone. The normal color is white, and yes, it was once used to make chalk for chalkboards.
